International Friendship!

We met the upcoming Chinese freshmen at the end of our first week in China, after touring Beijing. At 5pm, we head down to the hotel lobby to greet them. Each of the UW student is assigned to a Chinese student and spent the rest of the time together. My first impression when I saw them at the lobby is WOW! Many of them are very tall, and my roommate is 6'3". If there is stereotype about the shortness of Chinese people it would be so wrong! They are very friendly and open-minded. Afterward, some other students and I went to the bubble tea shop at the shopping mall nearby our hotel, a very "Chinese" activity together.

The bubble tea was very good. I picked the bubble tea with mango flavor since mango is my favorite. It costs approximately $2 for a large bubble tea, which is unbelievable. An average price for a large bubble tea in Seattle is $5 or more. The menu has both Chinese and English so we know which one to order. However, outside the mall, many bubble tea shops only display Chinese menu so you might need to know a little bit Chinese or ask your Chinese friend to order for you.

The next week, we spent time in the classroom, which is about 15-minute walk from our hotel, to study about international leadership. A few of the guest speakers are from Tsinghua University, the "Chinese Harvard" in China. Tsinghua University is very good at science and engineering. Most majors in science and engineering rank top ten in China such as Mathematics,Architecture, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Technology, Engineering Mechanics and so on.
